Justin Kenji Mirabal aka Jay K, was born on April 28, 1989 in Manhattan, New York. He lived a pretty rough life in New York. He always had a full house of family. His uncles sold and he basically lived on the streets. His first uncle was shot in the head and a few months before he was born his grandpa died. He moved to North Carolina around the age of 10 and then moved to California when he was 17 because he wasn't doing so good in North Carolina. His parents were split up so he lived on his own.
"Its been kinda hectic growing up around shit like that but I've always loved music since birth. My mom and everyone told me how i used to beatbox and do anything musically. I danced and used pots and pans to make any type of rhythm... I've always been ahead of my music game, but I didn't work with music so much until a few years back. When I was 17 years old, my bestfriend/cousin died, the person I idolized most and grew up with. Ever since then, I really started getting serious with music and trying to shop demos. I got pretty adapted to beat making and producing...I was introduced to the many factors that influence my music today such as, gangs, heartbreaks, fake friends, haters, and everything else we all go through. It was all looking to common, but everything I experienced through my life I take it to the studio. I think that's the reason why I'm so deep and that most people can relate to my music. I'm just another kid with a dream shooting for the stars."
